This year Australians have navigated the challenges associated with an unprecedented bushfire crisis as well as a global pandemic. Both our physical and mental health have been impacted and many of us are realising that the world as we know it is changing – how can we keep up?

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A NEW CHALLENGE?

Edith Cowan University offers three exciting post-graduate courses in disaster and emergency response. 

These unique courses have been designed for multi-disciplinary professionals who are involved in the overall management of, and response to disasters. This includes people currently working in areas like the emergency services, healthcare services, the military, non-governmental organisations (NGO’s), volunteer groups, disaster response agencies or emergency telecommunications. 

WHAT’S UNIQUE ABOUT THESE COURSES?

Each of these courses are the shortest of its kind in Australia and are available entirely online. They will provide you with a complete introduction to the challenges associated with the management of, and response to, mass casualty incidents and disasters and providing leadership and support to those involved. 

The courses explore all of the key phases of disaster management, including preparedness and mitigation, response and recovery. You’ll also study the psychological effects of disaster and be introduced to the concepts of disaster health and responding humanitarian crises. 

The Masters course also gives you the opportunity to develop research skills.

Each week you’ll benefit from the expertise of renowned national and international guest speakers through interview-style podcasts. You will also directly benefit from podcasts recorded by Course Coordinator Associate Professor Erin Smith for The Code 9 Foundation.

WOULD I BE ELIGIBLE FOR THESE COURSES?

We are very aware of the importance of having real-world experience in the multi-disciplinary field of disaster management and response, so if you have at least five years experience in an area relevant to the field, or if you have a relevant Bachelor’s degree, you would be eligible for entry into the courses.
